I am 13, weigh 137.5, and am 5′4” tall. Am I overweight?

I want to start off eighth grade by surprising everyone. That means losing a little weight. I’ve got until the end of August.
At home, I have a treadmill and lots of open space. I prefer not to be outside because it is so hot out. I love chocolate, but am willing to give up some of it. I would rather not go on a diet, but am willing to eat healthier if I knew how. If anyone can help me reach this goal, I would greatly appriciate it.

Excercise and eat better. Better food and less portions.

Don’t be so concerned with your weight, be more concerned about getting healthy.

#1) NEVER skip breakfast. It will ruin your matabolism
#2) Give up Pop. It’s a ton of empty calories. If you find it is very hard to give up, switch to diet. There are about 2 calories in a 12 oz. can of diet pop vs. an average of 150 in a can of regular.
#3) Everything in moderation. You don’t have to give up foods that you love, but you do need to pay attention to what you’re eating. It’s OK to go to Burger King once every few weeks…it’s not OK to eat there every day.

Be especially careful in the summertime. Milkshakes and ice cream are loaded with calories. A DQ blizzard can have as much as 900 calories.

I keep track of my daily caloric intake with a program on my palm pilot. If you search the web, you can probably find a similar program.

Your goal is extremely unrealistic, however. To lose that many pounds by August 31, you’d have to burn 1211 calories more than you take in EVERY DAY. Take it slow and be realistic. If you put this much pressure on yourself on such short notice, you’ll burn yourself out.

At 13 that is overweight. And it’s not only chocolate that makes you fat. Soda, food with preservatives, coffee, even the low fat/sugar stuff is still in a way bad for you.
A good way to lose weight is cut back on all forms of sugar and workout. Instead of cereal every morning have eggs or bacon every once in a while and drink plenty of water. Running on a treadmill for 30 to 45 min. a day is a good way to start but you need to do more if you want it off by the time school starts. Maybe getting an ab lounge or a good personal trainer that knows what their doing. If you want definition in you arms, back, abs and legs a few things you can do at home is:
push ups (start out with a few, like 10 or 15, and add on when you think your ready)
crunches/bicycle crunches four sets of 25
and lunges (where you stand, hands on hips, and step forward until your knee hits the ground and stand up and repeat w/ other leg) and do about two sets of 40 or 50
these are good things to do before you run to get your muscles moving.
